Biography
Kate Medeiros (b 1989) is a visual artist working primarily in metal casting and fabrication. Metal casting means more to Kate than it might to the traditional industrial caster. The cast product is not the only goal. During the casting process, which is a long one, you must destroy what you’ve made in order to advance to the next step. The process naturally informs the product. The casting community is another important characteristic. Once you’ve caught the bug, their ain’t no cure. Iron Pours bring metal casters from all over the world together for fire, friends, and art in the making. It’s a process that cannot be done alone and requires an enormous amount of trust and respect for one another. Over the last 5 years Kate has participated in numerous such events including Indianapolis Art casting symposium 2008,10, Lake Bluff Iron pour 2008,09,10, and Detroit Makers Faire 2011.
